Analysing = Success. An interesting and essential topic.
It doesn’t matter what industry you are in, being able to diagnose an issue is critical to success. A Doctor assesses vital signs; a Mechanic assesses diagnostics; A Padel or Tennis Coach assesses performance factors.
So how wide should the assessment start? How narrow should the assessment end?
Skill and experience exponentially speed up this process in any industry. A few questions from the Doctor; a few observations from the Mechanic; a few points for the Padel or Tennis Coach. These assessments lead quickly to the root cause of the issue and the interventions required.
The first steps to becoming an expert analyst begin by narrowing the lens. Padel or Tennis Coaches should take a small chunk of a point then narrow to one shot within it’s tactical context. Understand what is happening in one moment in time, make an intervention and place back in the point.
Create a portfolio of evidence based on many different game situations; players and shots. The expert eye is now developing. This takes time!
Do Padel and Tennis Coaches (in general) jump in too quickly with their diagnosis? Your thoughts?
