How do we look after ourselves as Coaches?

This is as much a question for you as it is solutions from my experience. Please share your top tips for longevity in the coaching industry.

I’ve ended up with a hip replacement in my 40s and I know a lot of my peers are in the same position. Here are my top tips if I could have my time again:

1 – I would not have done as many individual lessons. I would have done more pairs work where the players can work with each other rather than me hitting in all the time. It takes it out of you!

2 – Strength work. I thought I was invincible in my 20s and early 30s. A regular gym / stretching routine to strengthen and keep flexible is essential. I am bang on it now!

3 – Time off. I used to work on court 7 days a week for years and years. This was followed by a 3 week holiday because I was so exhausted. As lovely as a 3 week holiday is it is more important to have regular time off in the week. A whole day (or more) rest per week. Clients need to be able to work around you to some extent.

That’s my top 3 – what about you? p.s. anyone know where this padel club is? (no googling!)
